On May 9, Chattahoochee Valley Community College (CVCC) proudly celebrated the achievements of its Class of 2025 during a joyful commencement ceremony held at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center.
This year, CVCC proudly celebrated awarding 381 degrees and certificates to dedicated students from across the region. 323 students applied for graduation, and 160 participated in the ceremony, walking across the stage to the applause of family, friends, and faculty. Following a final review by the Admissions Office, an additional 58 students were recognized as program completers and included in the celebration.
CVCC also recognized dual enrollment students who have achieved college credentials while still in high school. Two students earned associate degrees, and 42 completed short-term certificates—an impressive accomplishment at such a young age.
A highlight of this year’s ceremony was the celebration of two inspiring mother-daughter duos who graduated together. Makayla Nicole Altis-Nichols and her mother, Elizabeth Nichols, earned Pharmacy Technician certificates. Jerrica Chavis and her mother, Cynthia Chavis, received Associate of Science degrees. Their joint accomplishments are a testament to perseverance, the strength of family support, and the lifelong value of education.
President Jackie Screws reflected on the milestone, saying, “Graduation is always our favorite day of the year. It’s a moment of joy, pride, and celebration—not just for our students but their families, our faculty, and the entire CVCC community. We are proud of every student who has reached this important goal and excited to see where their journey takes them next.”
CVCC extends heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2025. Once a Pirate, always a Pirate!
