Program Overview

The business program of study enables students to earn an A.A.S. degree in four different options for direct entry into the job market. We also offer a pre-business A.S. degree option for students wishing to transfer to a university. In addition, we offer certificates that can be embedded in a degree or earned as a stand-alone certificate. The program introduces students to the principles of accounting, economics, management, marketing, entrepreneurship, and other relevant aspects of business.

A.S. Pre-Business Option                                                              Degree Map

The A.S. Pre-Business Option is an Associate of Science degree designed for students who plan to transfer to a university to complete a four-year Business Degree. As part of this degree, students will complete their general education courses. In addition, they will take business courses that will prepare them for a Bachelor of Business Administration degree or Bachelor of Science degree in a related business field. Check with your four-year institution for the transferability of courses in this program.

A.A.S. in Business: General Business Option                    Degree Map-4 semestersDegree Map-5 semesters

The General Business Option is designed for individuals who will be seeking employment in business, management, accounting, retail, and technical occupations, or for professional development leading to increased job satisfaction and enhancement.  The degree can also be a major step towards completing a Bachelor’s degree in business or other academic discipline.

A.A.S. in Business: Accounting Option                                Degree Map-2 semesters Degree Map-3 semesters

Accounting is a profession of development, evaluation, and communication of financial and managerial information concerning the performance of a business entity, governmental agency, or non-profit institution. The Business/Accounting option prepares graduates for entry-level positions in a variety of areas, including:

  • Accounts Receivable or Accounts Payable Clerk
  • Accounting Assistant or Administrative Assistant
  • Billing or Payroll Clerk
  • Financial Clerk and Financial Services Agent
  • Bank Teller
  • Loan Counselor or Credit Reporting Agent

A.A.S. in Business: Management Option                                         Degree Map

The Business Management Option provides a broad background in the field of business and management. The program is designed for students interested in management positions. It is also appropriate for those already in management positions who wish to enhance their managerial skills. Students are prepared for managerial responsibilities by studying fundamentals of business operations and human relations. Graduates are eligible for jobs as assistant managers, management trainees, and a wide variety of other entry-level positions.

AAS in Business: Small Business Management Option                Degree Map

The Small Business Management Option could lead to a career as an entrepreneur, office manager, administrative services manager, or related career. The program teaches how to run a small business or manage an operation within a larger business. Students learn aspects of entrepreneurship such as marketing, management, accounting, human resources, business ethics, business plans, and the computer skills needed to operate in today’s modern business environment.
