On Thursday, May 4, 2023, thirty (30) Chattahoochee Valley Community College (CVCC) nursing students were pinned in a traditional pinning ceremony.
“We are proud of these individuals as they enter the medical field,” said Dr. Bridgett Jackson, Director of Health Sciences. “This day is a testament to their hard work and dedication, and I am confident these future healthcare professionals have the skills they need to be successful.”
The pinning ceremony signifies that students have joined the sisterhood and brotherhood of nursing and are ready to serve society in the healthcare industry. The history of the pinning ceremony dates back to the 1860s when Queen Victoria awarded Florence Nightingale the Red Cross of St. George to recognize her service as a military nurse during the Crimean War. Family and friends attended the ceremony as health sciences faculty members pinned CVCC students. The ceremony also included the presentation of special awards, the lighting of candles, and the recitation of the Nightingale Pledge.
The 30 students who received their nursing pins are Gabriella Barber, Brooke Bortle, Jordan Bragg, Breanna Brooks, Holli Burley, Taylor Coe, Lauryn Collier, Stephanie Elder, Tony Grantham, Alyssa Groves, David Hoogendorn, Shenavia Macon, Samantha Mann, Kristin Mason, Brook Mason, Alyssa Melendez, Ashley Morris, Mackenzie Osborne, Martez Owens, Kayla Person, Madison Richardson, Alexa Shiver, Harold Smith, Jessica Smith, Erica Stacy, Katrina Staples, Shabria Stapleton, Hannah Turner, Zennitha Williams, and Dania Williams.
