CVCC to host drive-thru event and give away scholarships

PHENIX CITY, AL — Due to COVID-19, Chattahoochee Valley Community College (CVCC) has modified its annual bus tour. CVCC is inviting the community to pull up and learn more about the College drive-thru style! The event is designed to provide an opportunity to experience all that CVCC has to offer by driving through campus and pausing at different tent stations to gather information.

Faculty and staff will be stationed at each tent to share information about programs of study, financial aid, and other resources the College has to offer. The event is scheduled for July 7 from 9 am to 12 pm, and July 8 from 12 pm to 3 pm. It will take place in the parking lot of the state-of-the-art Industrial and Performing Arts Center (IPAC), located at the front of  campus. CVCC is located at 2602 College Drive in Phenix City, Alabama.

“The drive-thru event provides a way for us to continue safe distancing while continuing to serve the community,” said Dr. Tim Harrison, Dean of Students and College Services. “For the past couple of years, we have taken our CVCC bus on the road and set up shop at various locations around the community for several days, greeting people as they came through and offering our assistance in helping them reach their educational goals. We will do the same at our drive-thru event, and we’re excited to be able to continue this tradition in a new way.”

Potential students will also have the opportunity to apply on site as well as talk one-on-one with staff to get their questions answered. There will also be giveaways, including t-shirts and several scholarship opportunities. The College plans to have a drawing each day for a scholarship, and those who apply for admission for the fall do not have to be present at the time of the drawing to win.

“We want to address barriers for our students, so we are offering scholarships to help pay for college,” said Harrison. “Those scholarship drawings will be exciting, and anyone applying for admission may enter to win. Our financial aid office will also be on-hand at this event to provide
assistance and help answer questions about the Free Application for  Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).”

College officials will monitor a six feet distance between individuals, and everyone is required to wear masks. Complimentary masks will be available for those who need them. “This is wonderful exposure for the College,” said Jackie Screws, President. “The opportunities are endless at CVCC, and we want to get the word out about all that we have to offer for traditional and nontraditional students. If you want to pursue a degree from a four-year university or earn a certification to enter directly into the workforce, there is a place for you at CVCC. In the wake of COVID-19, many people are considering staying closer to home as they plan to return to
College in the fall. CVCC offers a quality education and it is ideal for people desiring to stay closer to home. If you live out-of-state within a 50-mile radius of the College, there is no out-ofstate tuition charge.”

The application is free, and fall classes begin August 19. Registration is going on now through the first day of classes. For more information, visit or call 334-291-4900.
