Phenix City, AL—Chattahoochee Valley Community College (CVCC) is proud to announce the addition of women’s flag football to its intercollegiate athletics lineup, with the program set to debut in Fall 2026. The new sport reflects the College’s commitment to expanding competitive opportunities for students while responding to the rapid growth of flag football at the collegiate level.
“The addition of women’s flag football reflects CVCC’s commitment to expanding opportunities for our students both in the classroom and in competition,” said CVCC President Annette Funderburk. “As this exciting sport continues to grow across the country, we are proud to offer student-athletes another pathway to earn a college education, develop leadership skills, and represent Chattahoochee Valley Community College. This program is another example of how CVCC is investing in the future of our students and our community.”
Flag football is a fast-paced, non-contact version of traditional football that emphasizes speed, agility, strategy, and teamwork. Instead of tackling, defenders stop the ball carrier by pulling a flag from a belt worn by the player. Games are typically played with smaller teams on a shorter field, creating a dynamic and high-energy experience for both athletes and fans.
“Adding flag football allows us to reach new students and provide additional opportunities to compete at the collegiate level,” said Athletic Director Ashley Landi. “The sport has gained national momentum, particularly at the college level, and we are proud to be part of that growth.” The flag football team will join CVCC’s athletics program alongside baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s basketball.
CVCC is proud to introduce its inaugural coaching staff, led by Devon Holmes and Dorian Collier. Holmes brings 12 years of experience in youth development and behavioral health and is a USA Flag World Champion, six-time NFL Flag Regional Champion, and Positive Coaching Alliance National Coach of the Year. He also holds degrees in political science and education, organizational leadership, and health and human performance. Collier holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Florida A&M University and brings experience in collegiate athletics, recruiting, program operations, strength and conditioning, and player development.
Student-athletes interested in learning more about CVCC flag football may contact the CVCC Athletics Department for additional information about the program, eligibility, and future recruitment opportunities.
