Dean of Workforce Development - Janet OrmondCVCC Helps Residents Get Ready-To-Work

Chattahoochee Valley Community College is launching a program to prepare residents to be Career Ready with a free workforce development program.

The College is incorporating Alabama’s Ready-to-Work program into their Workforce Development Division, beginning April 2008.  The curriculum provides a career pathway for adults with limited education and employment experience by offering entry level skills required for employment.  The training curriculum is set to standards cited by business and industry employers throughout the state.  Successful participants will earn an “Alabama Certified Worker” certificate and a State of Alabama “Career Readiness Certificate.”  Alabama’s Career Readiness Certificate is equivalent to Georgia’s Work Ready Certificate and is recognized in both states and across the nation.

The Ready to Work curriculum includes the following topics: Computer Skills; Communication; Problem Solving; Workplace Behavior, including Diversity, Work Ethics, Sexual Harassment, Team Building, and Workplace Violence; Customer Service; Lean Manufacturing; and Workplace Safety.

Janet Ormond, CVCC’s new dean of Workforce Development supervises the program.  Ormond brings more than 20 years of experience in business and industry, workforce development and technical training to this new position.

Businesses wishing to use this program as their pre-employment training and individuals seeking additional information may reach CVCC’s Workforce Development Division by calling (334) 291-4964.
