This will be the biggest personal effort the College has made to the neighborhood, but not its only contribution. Two weeks ago, the campus chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society toiled for hours, hauling wood and nailing the frame for one of the homes. Most significantly, the College has been the host site for Habitat for Humanity’s Collegiate Challenge for several years. About 100 students from across the United States and (this year Canada) will make CVCC’s gymnasium their home. CVCC faculty, staff and students will provide snacks and access to entertainment. The affiliations of CVCC with the Russell County Habitat for Humanity do not end there. George Martin, President of the Russell County Habitat for Humanity Board says that the very first Russell County Habitat for Humanity meeting was held in one of CVCC’s academic buildings. |

In March, you will find Chattahoochee Valley Community College faculty, staff and students swinging hammers to build a Habitat for Humanity home. The College’s Outreach Committee presented the idea of building a CVCC house in the Habitat for Humanity neighborhood in Sandfort Hills, a special subdivision off Sandfort Road. Enthusiastic employees and students signed up to provide manpower the entire week, beginning March 10.
